FAQ for Lake Front Area Residents

1. What is the date of the fireworks this year?  July 1 2011

2. What time does it start?  10:00 P.M.

3. What is the name of the fireworks company?  Hamburg Fireworks of Lancaster.

4. What is the name of the radio station for the simulcast? WNKO 101.7 Kool classics

5. How much is the average donation?  Anywhere from $50.00 to $100 but we will gladly accept loose change and dollar bills as well, every little bit helps. We collect on the street in Millersport two weeks before the show.

6. Where do I get flares?  Buckeye Lake Hardware, A-1 Auto Parts, Millersport Hardware

7. What are flares for?  The tradition started years ago on this lake to light the lake like a birthday cake to celebrate the independence of our nation.

8. Why do some people have luminaries?  For a while we had a company who made luminaries with red bags which made it safer for all of us then using the flares and they lasted longer. However BLASST cannot find any company who will make the luminaries with red bags anymore. But we are still looking.

9. Where do I get parts for my Luminaries?  We are very sorry we have no parts for the luminaries but Buckeye Lake Hardware carries the bulbs.

10. What is the rain date?  Saturday September 3, 2011

11. Why is the BLASST celebration scheduled on the same day as Red White and Boom?

Thanks to our hundreds of donors, BLASST is the largest NON-PROFIT firework shows in Ohio. It is a collaborative effort, relying on the combined assistance of local fire and police departments, the Fairfield County sheriff’s Office and Ohio Department of Natural Resources Divisions of Parks and Watercraft. For the most part, these services are donated. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Parks is our key partner. Our launch site is on state park property and our annual show must have their permission. In a perfect world, all fireworks shows would be on the 4th of July. This is not possible for Columbus's RED WHITE & BOOM nor BLASST. Both are NOT scheduled on the 4th of July holiday due to the cost and availability of law enforcement and emergency service personnel. RED WHITE & BOOM can't afford the holiday overtime cost. For BLASST, ODNR Park officers and Watercraft officers come from parks all over central Ohio. They must be in their home parks for the actual holiday. The bottom line is that BLASST must work within the confines of our limited financial resources and the availability of ODNR staffing for the most beautiful show on earth right in our own back yards OR have no show at all.

12. Do you accept vendors for your event?  No, Please understand we are a total NON-PROFIT event we have NO vendors. If vendors are caught anywhere around the lake selling anything with or without a license they are taken straight to jail and their items are given away in front of them for free to anyone who wants them. The people living on this lake turn vendors in as soon as they see them. We have police on duty just for this reason. It costs these people a great deal of money to put on this show and they do not like it when someone wants a somewhat free ride on their coat tail.

13. How much money does a Sponsor have to give to get significant recognition?  $5,000.00 or above.
